Although what would almost immediately come to mind is the fact that a girlie décor for bedrooms would usually come along with an awful lot of ribbons and frills and all of the other feminine and intricate definitions and details, it is really not all that there is to it.

You have the issue of space to consider and more than that, you would also need to think about the issue of being able to work everything out on an entity or overall.

It would be quite interesting to know that if you would like to be able to make sure that you are able to come up with something that will really be well balanced or something that will really get to show off all of the details that you would like to accentuate or highlight in your home, then you would really need to go for the option of more solid or more masculine pieces one way or another.

This may probably be something that will not occur to you right off the bat but believe it or not, marble floors will really get to do wonders for you and for the little girl’s bedroom décor that you are technically trying to come up with.

You will soon realize that once you get to set this up the right way, your little girl will be ecstatic about how her room will technically turn out to be and more than that, she will really get to take care of it and make it her responsibility to keep it as clean as much as possible.

Wood plank flooring gives classiness to an individuals house and blends with various style of furniture. This kind of floor has been used for long period of time as an option for home flooring. One benefits of having wood plank flooring is that if one plank is damaged it can be solely removed and replaced. As time pass by the wood flooring business also evolve. Before wood plank flooring is made wholly by wood but because of advancement of technology synthetic flooring became available. Synthetic flooring includes the laminated flooring and the engineered oak flooring that look like the solid oak flooring. But these artificial wood flooring are not as durable as the solid wood flooring.

Solid oak flooring is a popular choice of wood plank flooring because it is made from a hard type of wood and can last for a long period of time. The natural color of the oak doesn’t transform overtime it keeps its natural color except if it is over exposed to the sun for a comprehensive period of time. Oak has a beautiful normal color but customers are given other choices, it can be stained with a different color.

Water is the worse enemy of wood but oak has strong resistance to water. Solid oak flooring should be kept dry and if water accidentally spilled wiped it with a clot and let it dry. It is easy to clean wood flooring all you need to do is sweep it frequently to get rid of dust and other debris. A damp mop can be used to clean it if the wood is treated with polyurethane.

A professional should install the floor so that wood plank flooring fits entirely to the floor. Solid oak flooring can last for many generations if it is greatly taken care off and installed properly. This type of wood flooring is good form of investment because aside from its durability it increases the worth of the house.

Homeowners and business owners alike can protect the carpet in any home or office with quality carpet padding. This padding is needed to make the floor more comfortable to walk on and to prolong the life of the carpet laid on top of it. Carpet padding prices will vary according to quality but there is more to consider than just how much it costs. Quality materials and construction will make the padding more effective and can save lots of money in the long run.

Pads are specifically designed to be used with different types of carpet. Pads will adhere differently depending on material type and texture. Purchasing a generic pad is not a good idea because the quality will not be as high. Paying a little extra for the padding will prolong the life of the carpet. Most carpet store representatives are much more interested in selling the generic pads so the consumer has to return sooner to buy new carpet.

Pads can be found at most home improvement retailers. First and second level pads are better than the generic models sold by most carpet retailers. The extended lifetime warranty offered by most carpet manufacturers will only be valid if a quality padding application is purchased. Consumers must review the warranty carefully to determine which type of padding is required.

The asking price for carpet padding will be determined by how thick it is and any special properties. Some are waterproof and are designed to fight odors. Hypoallergenic insulation and antimicrobial treatments are two more properties to look for in carpet padding. A material that sheds water will keep moisture from seeping into the padding where mold can grow. Always consider padding as well when budgeting for carpet prices.

There are several sources for pads including online retailers and local department stores. It is important to purchase a quality product that will not only protect your carpet but be comfortable to walk on.

In anticipation of summer, many families look forward to spending time in an outdoor area such as a patio. Yet during the winter months, patios can undergo exposure to harsh weather conditions. That fact is one of several that must be considered by anyone who is considering the various patio flooring options.

A homeowner who wants to give his or her outdoor living space the look and feel of a deck should plan to install a wood floor. However, each of those wooden panels should be carefully sanded. In addition, each should be treated with a chemical that prevents water damage.

Homeowners that live in a region with a relatively mild climate might want to consider arranging for installation of a cement floor. Yet cement flooring would not work in a spot that receives intense rays from the sun during the summer. Such a covering would generate a good deal of heat. On the other hand, cement’s tendency to crack, when exposed to cold temperatures, introduces another potential problem. Therefore, it would rule out at least one option of possible interest to an outdoor-loving consumer.

A pebble stone overlay provides the homeowner with yet another way to cover a patio’s bottom section. Unlike a cemented bottom, such a surface can not be polished, in order to abolish its natural roughness. Laminate is another possibility. However, the smart consumer checks to see if the quoted price includes the cost of needed padding.

When a screen surrounds the patio’s bottom surface, then bricks can add an elegant looking touch. Moreover, while durable, a brick surface can be hard to maintain. Furthermore, introduction of a screen leads to a search for patio covers.

Both soft and hard materials have been used to create a patio’s roof. When a softer material is selected, it should be UV resistant and water repellent. A harder cover could be a combination of acrylic sheets and an extruded aluminum T-bar. It would allow filtered light to fall on the covered area. Thus those who relaxed in that comfortable and airy spot would not be relegated to a dark and shadowy region.

Wood flooring create a warm and inviting atmosphere to any room in the home, and oak is often chosen for both its appearance and durability. The cost of solid oak flooring can be expensive. Engineered oak flooring is becoming a popular alternative, as it offers the attractive appearance of oak for a price that is considerably more affordable.

Engineered oak flooring is created by layering thin strips of various types of wood, usually in thicknesses no more than 4-6mm in width. These layers are laminated together to create boards with the top layer being a oak veneer. While the boards are not created from solid wood it should not be mistaken for particleboard as particleboard is made from wood chips that are packed tightly together. The cross-grain lamination of engineered oak flooring produces a sturdy and stable board that has the advantage of being less prone to moisture damage than solid wood. The bonded-layer design also has the benefit of offering outstanding stability as the boards are far less likely to shrink or warp. This can make it ideal for use in rooms that experience temperature changes such as with the use of heating and air conditioning units. However the best benefit that engineered oak flooring offers over solid wood is the price.

Engineered oak flooring is considerably more affordable than solid oak and can in fact be as little as one-fifth of the price. Oak by nature is expensive because of the years required for the wood to reach maturity which often requires decades. As engineered flooring uses a variety of woods for the interior and less oak is required to create the boards which allows for the lower price. Many types of engineered flooring are also designed to be click and lock, which allows for easy installation without the need to hire professional services.

Engineered oak is an economical alternative to solid oak as it is nearly indistinguishable in appearance. Created by layering thin strips of wood together the top layer is authentic oak thus providing the same look as solid oak flooring. Engineered oak floors can also be purchased in planks longer and wider than solid wood adding versatility to their use. The cost of engineered oak flooring makes it a more affordable option when wood flooring is desired as the cost can be as little as one-fifth the price of solid oak. Engineered oak can be found at most home improvement stores, and installation can be done as a do-it-yourself project. Easy installation adds to the affordability by eliminating the need to hire professional services.

In the home floor rugs are normally used without having being given a second thought. As there are so many varieties to choose from, we sometimes tend to forget that besides the usual pieces that we can use, there is another rather interesting type that is slightly different in appearance. This is the runner rugs.

There are different types of runner rugs out there and each can be used in different areas. If you would like to get some ideas on how to use them in these different areas, read on.

The first type is the area rug runner, which is something that you can use in about any area you so wish. These runners help to define that area and make it look more attractive visually and more comfortable to step on. You can pick various designs and motifs, according to your personal preferences and what would work best in that particular area.

The second type is the kitchen runner, which can make any kitchen bog or small look fabulous. Made specifically for the kitchen, they come in easy to clean materials which are also hard wearing. For the kitchen, you can use such charming motifs such as herbs and spices, hens and roosters as well as teapots and coffee cups. Your kitchen will have that aura of the rustic country kitchen.

The third type is the bathroom runner, which are to be used in the bathrooms. As they are used in damp areas, they are made from materials that can be used for such places. They make great complementary pieces especially after you step out of the shower or tub. You can find these normally in geometrical patterns and bold stripes.

The fourth type is the outdoor runner, which as the name suggests is to be used outdoors. Add color and character to all your outdoor living areas with these runner rugs. You can pick nature inspired motifs and designs or pick animal prints for a touch of the wild outdoors.

A common question among many individuals is how much does laminate flooring cost?

One of the top five reasons homeowners choose laminate over hardwood flooring is because it is cheaper so this is not a bad question at all. Unfortunately its not one that is easy answered.

Why?

Desired quality, area of the country you live in, and if you are installing it yourself or having a flooring professional do it for you all play a part in the final cost. But, the follow is a guide you can use in making your preparations.

Keep in mind that most people are not “do-it-yourselfers” so you not only have to factor in the price of the laminate flooring itself but also of the installation of it.

Price of the Product + Installation Charge (Shipping and Labor) = Total Cost

Average Price of Laminate

$0.99 to $6.00/ square foot

The more realistic the laminate pieces look the more expensive they will be. Fake looking laminate (and we can all tell the difference) will be the least expense and there are some places you can find a nice supply for $2 a square foot. Though you can find some types of laminate for under a dollar I would caution that you might not like the end result.

The thicker the pieces are the more expensive they will be. They range from six to twelve millimeters in thickness.

The more higher end laminates have large amounts of melamine in its core which vastly improves its ability to resist moisture. Expect to pay more for ones with this substance.

Different installation systems demand different prices

There are some brands that come stocked with an attached underlayment. If so you can plan to pay up to two dollars more per square foot.

Cost of Installation

This price varies so much depending on where you live. Depending on the local economy, number of builders/ floor installers, and demand you will pay anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 per square feet of laminate flooring installation.

I have done some helped a friend do some flooring jobs in Anchorage where we got a little over five dollars a square foot because that is what the market bears but then I some people I know in Portland do the same work and they receive less than two dollars a square foot. Granted I do not know how they bid and I am sure many people are getting more than that but you see the difference.

I went into one of the top flooring store in Portland, OR a week ago (Paulsons) and asked one of the tops salesman (Carrol) what she believed was better: laminate flooring or hardwood flooring?

She thought laminate floors were a much better buy in the long run. Her reasoning was they are easier to maintain, keep their look over the long run, are cheaper, and look just as good as hardwood floors if you buy the quality laminate.

Carrol explained that she has two dogs. She has hardwood flooring and her dogs have scratched it up pretty bad. That was her major know again hardwood. Its scratches extremely easily. All it takes is for you to have dogs or cats with any sort of claws to run over it, furniture being moved, or rocks in people’s shoes and your nice finish will be ruined.

She explained to me that if you do decide to go with solid hardwood flooring get a lighter shade because the darker your floors are the more the scratches will show.

Additionally, spills can stain hardwood floors. This is something to think about if you have kids. I did not know hardwood could stain but it can. Laminate flooring on the other hand does not.

Laminates are really hard to scratch and do not stain. Those were the huge selling points with her. She said that while she does sell more hardwood than laminate they are almost neck and neck. Laminate has become really popular these days and in her opinion it is better than hardwood. Many people still prefer the real thing though no matter what you tell them.

It was also mentioned that if you buy the quality laminate flooring it looks 99.9% the same as hardwood. You cannot tell the difference if you get the more expensive stuff. She showed me samples and I had to agree. You can tell if a person has laminate installed if they buy the cheap material. It just looks like a picture of hardwood. But when you start paying at least $5 a square foot for the good material you get virtually hardwood flooring. The only person who will know is you. And it will last longer.

Laminate flooring is such a wise choice when you are trying to update your home. It firmly believe its one of the cheapest and yet most effective ways to increase the value of any residence.

As I brought out earlier it can completely change the look of a house. One of the nice things about laminate, out of many, is that there are so many choices to choose from!

You can make your house look any style you want. It can look stone, ceramic, or wood. And there are variations of all kinds of colors and styles within all of those. The options for you to choose from can number in the hundreds.

This may be a little off topic but most theme parks utilize laminate pieces when they are designing themes and cues for certain rides or areas within their park.. Like the whole “Sword and the Stone” knight theme. Those stones are most likely not real. They are laminate, although, you never would know it.

It is becoming more popular all of the time because this particular flooring is easy to install, affordable, and its durable also.

I am also a firm believer that its especially nice for families that have kids, pets, and just a lot of traffic in general. The reason for this is that also doesn’t fade in the sun unlike real wood floors and it resists water! If or when you have kids you will really be able to appreciate that point. Kids spill drinks all the time and you need a material that you can easily wipe up and not stain.

Good quality laminate has thicker cores and is treated with water repellent chemicals. That makes it able to sustain excessive amounts of water without swelling. Many people only put it in the living and bedrooms but I think this point makes it great for bathrooms or kitchens. The top layer is also very dense so it makes it very hard to scratch or even burn!

By the way a lot of companies that make laminate floors give warranties with their products, which make it a little more comforting for your purchase. Most of them have a five year warranty of them against defects but the top quality ones will usually come with a ten year warranty.

I repeat, these types of floors are made to be easy to install for your typical homeowner with little prior knowledge. There are so many different laminate flooring companies, with so many different styles, and they are continually coming out with more innovations to make it easier all the time for installing it.

Generally it has a tongue and groove interlocking system to install it, making it go together fast and easy. If you have any sort of carpentry experience at all you can honestly make putting a new floor in just a weekend project. Also all that you need underneath is basically any hard flat surface that is even. The sub floor can be plywood, concrete, sheet vinyl flooring, hardwood floor, etc.

So go on ahead and get started! Quit dreaming and start shopping for the right style laminate floor for you!

I often get e-mailed the question pertaining to the costs of laminate flooring. By now most people already know that laminates are less expensive than oak hardwood floors but what is the actual savings?

There is an excellent article called Laminate Floor Basics that talks about this subject in depth but what I found out is that your typical laminate will go from $3.50 a square ft all the way to $5.00 a square foot. The typical cost for oak hardwood is $10 per sq ft on the low end to $12 a square foot on the high end.

Now according to the National Association of Home Builders the standard home in the United States is 2,000 square feet with two full bathrooms, three living rooms, a dining room, two general purpose rooms, basement, garage, and fireplace.

Now obviously you are not going to have to upgrade the floors in all parts of the house like the basement so when doing the numbers I would say that a typical house will require 1000-1400 feet of laminate flooring.

This means that for the majority of the homeowners it will take $3500 to $4,900 if you install average quality laminate in your home by yourself or $5,000 to $7,000 if you install high end laminate in your home, again, by yourself.

You save a lot if you do all the work yourself and can expect to pay a couple thousand more than the prices I just calculated if you get a contractor or someone else to do it.

It is really is not that hard to DIY but you it does help if you have some sort of construction aptitude if decide you want to install this flooring in your home yourself.

I am going to tell you that Pergo makes the easiest to install. They make their pieces to be installed like you would a puzzle and you just wet the dry glue on them and lock them into place.

Back to the costs. I have found that if you really look around whether locally or on the internet you can get some decent laminate for even under $3.50 a square foot.

You have to remember that we are in a recession and there are way more houses on the market than people wanting to buy them. Remember 2003-2007 when houses were springing up all over the place.

Large chains like Home Depot and Lowes could not keep this item on their shelves just a year and a half ago. Now they are trying to unload it as fast as they can.

I have seen some laminate going for $.99 a sq ft on some sites. That is bone cheap and I would avoid those sites. That seems just way bellow market value and I doubt the quality at those prices.

Nevertheless if you look around the web you can find some decent stuff for $1.59 per piece without shipping. Some will offer free shipping so I would check.

Hope this answered those e-mails I got. Thanks. Remember to read the article I just wrote about the pros and cons of going with this type of material as there are indeed negative aspects of laminate that follow the many positive things.
